Kurdistani List Wins Kurdistan Election

Hewler, South Kurdistan – The two-party ruling alliance has retained control of the autonomous region's parliament, taking 57.34 percent of the vote in elections. The winning coalition partners are the Kurdistani List which is composed of Mr Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

Massoud Barzani was re-elected in Southern Kurdistan, preliminary results showed on Wednesday. The regional president Massud Barzani won 69.57 percent of the vote in a simultaneous presidential poll pitting him against four other candidates, presidential cabinet chief Fuad Hussein said on Sunday.

The reformist Change movement won 23.75 percent in Saturday's elections, the preliminary results show and Services and Reform, the leftist-Islamic List, took 12.8 percent of the vote.
